Why are some wedding videos so expensive?

There are several reasons for this. First, professional Videographers use high-quality equipment for the best results in picture, sound and durability when using there equipment over and over again.

Video technology has been changing very rapidly, not only in cameras but in editing systems, as well. Keeping up with the technology is an expensive proposition but, usually, well worth it. Professional Videographers have to invest in audio equipment (microphones, mixers, etc.) in ADDITION to the camera AND editing equipment. Many Videographers spend more money on equipment than the average photographer.

When the wedding day is over, a typical professional Videographer will spend another 20-60 hours editing the video to make it look nice and more enjoyable to watch. When you consider everything involved in producing a wedding video (sound & video equipment and editing time), it's not surprising to see why it might cost more than photography. When the wedding day is over, most couples agree video was the best investment for preserving their memories.

If I've hired a good photographer, why do I need a Videographer?

There are many answers to this question. First, let's compare the numbers. An average photographer will shoot around 300 to 1500 photos throughout the wedding day. The average Videographer will shoot around 648,000 photos throughout the day (and that's only for a 6 hour day!). That's not a misprint, while a video camera is recording, it records 30 pictures (frames) per second. This can mean that if you're photographer happens to take a picture of the wedding party and some of the members blinked; he/she will need to take another picture and hope this doesn't happen again. Whereas, the Videographer could select a picture from the video where no one blinked. Not to mention, the Videographer is also recording sound so, you'll be able to hear what is happening at the same time.
Second, a good Videographer can capture the location (church, hotel, etc.), the flowers, the wedding gown, the decorations, the cake, etc., etc. and not have to worry about the cost of developing an extra photo of each one.

Now, think about your favorite television show. Would you rather see a few photos from an episode or watch the actual show? Wouldn't the same be true for your wedding? Many Videographers can edit a 10-minute "highlights" version of your wedding day in case your friends don't want to sit through a 2-hour video.
Did you know that any video scenes can be converted into black & white, sepia tone, and even "letter-boxed" (wide-screen) format like many motion pictures?

How soon, before the wedding, should I reserve my Videographer?

Keep in mind, that like photographers, the better Videographers tend to book up faster. Also, keep in mind there are only about 1 wedding Videographer per every 10 photographers. Wedding videos are getting better every day in terms of picture quality (due to improvements in technology) and style. Videographers now have the tools and the creativity to produce some pretty stunning videos. Videographers have to update their equipment more frequently than most photographers. The combination of these items (along with the increase in energy costs) has resulted in continuing increases in the cost of wedding videos. You could save some money by reserving your Videographer before their prices go up. Therefore, the sooner you book the better it is for you.

Why should I have my wedding day professionally videotaped?

Your wedding day is a once in a lifetime experience. After months of careful planning to make your celebration perfect, your emotions will fly by in a heartbeat, laughter shared with friends and family as you prepare for your ceremony, eager anticipation as you walk down the aisle, tears of joy as you say your vows, a loving caress in your first dance, the fun and excitement of your reception. These moments are full of sights, sounds, and motion! And these memories are what are left after your wedding day is over. A professional wedding Videographer, will capture emotions as only a moving picture can and preserve them for you to enjoy over and over again and to pass down to future generations.

How should I choose a professional wedding Videographer?

Hiring the right Videographer does make a difference. There are no retakes in a live event. It must be done right the first time. Choose a wedding Videographer, who is accomplished and dedicated to outstanding service, it takes more than good equipment to make a great video. It takes talent, vision, and accomplished camera skills. Also keep in mind that your Videographer will be with you throughout your wedding day. Choose someone you feel at ease and confident that will interact well with both you and your guests. The most important element to shop for is the actual Videographer, whose creative experience, professionalism and talents are what you really want.
